"The events industry continues to make great strides in its positive contribution to a ‘greener’ world, and we’re all on this important sustainability journey together.
The AEV Sustainability Working Group brings together passionate and like-minded members with one goal - to reduce the effect our industry has on the environment. As venue teams, we believe we should lead by example and have a positive impact on the way people think and behave when it comes to sustainability.
At the AEV meetings we operate in an open forum which enables us to learn from one another and to share best practice. We also discuss challenging problems including changes in legislation that have an impact on our industry.
Being part of the Working Group offers great networking opportunities, as well as opportunities to hear from guest speakers from a variety of environmental professions. It also allows you to build up a set of peers that can be called upon for advice and to share venue insight which helps us all work towards achieving our shared goal."
"I've been attending the AEV HR Working Group since it commenced and have found it to be a helpful way to network with fellow HR professionals within the industry.
The main benefit is the AEV salary survey which is a valuable source of venue specific data, including both salary and benefit comparisons which can then be used as part our our benchmarking process.
The group now only meets once a year, taking very little actual time away from the office, but also opens up the opportunity to ask questions and share feedback or ideas via the AEV network."
"I’d thoroughly recommend being part of a Working Group. It’s a great opportunity to meet with key colleagues from other venues, discuss current issues and consider future impact on our specific area of focus or the wider industry. It’s an opportunity to build relationships, share best practice and keep in touch with important issues.
As a minimum, a chance conversation before, during or after a meeting may resonate and stimulate further discussion on a particular shared challenge. Time is precious to us all but it’s a limited investment with great benefit."
“The main benefit of being a member of the AEV Event Managers Working Group outside of attending meetings, is knowing that you have a network of contacts that you can call upon if you have any questions or need advice as well as having the support of the AEV.
I’m very passionate about my job and feel that an important part of being able to deliver for the client is to continue to develop my knowledge of current issues within the industry, which could affect their events and the best solutions to these - being an active member of this Working Group is key to this. Being part of this Working Group is about sharing best practice; providing a consistent experience for our clients, many of whom have links with the venues involved; learning from others’ experiences and knowing that if in doubt you can call on someone at another venue for information or advice, all of which helps to develop the industry as a whole.”
“I’m a big advocate of knowledge sharing across organisations and the AEV Working Groups seemed the logical choice to make this happen, given it’s the main association within our industry.
I now chair the cross association Technology Working Group (formerly the Connectivity Technical Committee) – being part of this Working Group gives great networking opportunities; it allows you to build up a set of peers that can be called upon for advice, to run ideas past or generally share insight into industry trends.
Being an active member of this group is an opportunity to learn from others and to share best practice. It’s also great for networking and to gain a greater awareness of industry developments. The meetings provide members with a chance to inform and educate around technology trends and associated challenges within our industry, while members can also table ideas and gain views and options from representatives across all three associations, AEV, AEO and ESSA.”
"AEV membership is a must for any event venue seeking to maximize their brand and customer offering. ExCeL London derives significant value from the peer-to-peer platforms AEV membership provides, which provoke consistent worthwhile reviews of our polices across a range of areas. Furthermore the many industry networking opportunities on offer help us to maintain and develop business relationships with both existing customers and prospect organiser companies."
“During the past few years the AEV has really gained momentum, producing significant work that is of huge benefit to the entire industry. By aligning so closely to its sister organisations - the AEO and ESSA - it continues to effectively address industry issues with one voice. EC&O Venues has been an active member of the AEV since its inception and we will continue to play a leading role in its many initiatives. From a personal level, and as a former chairman of the association, I take great pride in the progress that the AEV has made to date and look forward to contributing to its ongoing success.”
AEV membership can greatly assist your venue across an unprecedented variety of areas. Joining the association and tapping into AEV’s array of products and services will significantly benefit your business and, crucially, do so in a way that saves you and your colleagues time and money!
In a year that promises challenging economic undertones, event venues best-placed to ‘weather any storm’ will be those with ample opportunity to network with both existing and potential customers/suppliers, who can exchange information with their venue peers and ensure positive progress on shared issues, who are able to access instant guidance on key topics and stay ‘on the pulse’ of current industry trends via up-to-date research, and who can boast ‘approved supplier’ status within a community of the leading industry players.
Allow AEV membership to facilitate these solutions, and resultantly give your venue a genuine edge.

“We understand that as our members face the toughest ever economic climate, we must work to achieve a return on investment value many times that of the annual joining fee. Current research suggests a return in excess of £40,000, more than 8 times the annual investment for most members.”
