Glasgow City Council Awarded Champion Accolade
Glasgow City Council has been awarded an SECC Champion Award in recognition of its close working relationship and support of the Scottish Exhibition + Conference Centre (SECC) throughout the venue’s 25 year history.
The prestigious award was presented to council leader Gordon Matheson this week, as part of the Scottish venue’s anniversary celebrations, which officially draw to a close at the end of this month. The Champion Awards recognise the contributions of key people and organisations over the last 25 years and the role they have played in the SECC’s success.
Councillor Gordon Matheson commented at the presentation: “I am honoured to receive this award on behalf of Glasgow City Council and its members both past and present. The SECC has played a key role in attracting new business and visitors to the city, which has in turn made a significant impact on both the local and Scottish economies. With the addition of the Scottish National Arena in 2013 and their contribution as a venue during the 2014 Commonwealth Games, the SECC looks set to continue its positive effect on the City of Glasgow. We look forward to continuing our working relationship in 2011 and beyond.”
John Sharkey, Chief Executive of the SECC added: “Our close working relationship with Glasgow City Council has been enormously beneficial to the SECC over the years. Having a shared vision for both the venue and the city has been crucial to developing Glasgow as a world class destination for both business and leisure and we will continue to strengthen that relationship to ensure that visitors have a memorable time in Glasgow.”
