Flooring Show returns to Harrogate
A new Harrogate Flooring Show, which will run 5 – 7 September 2010, introduces a Sunday trading day for the first time in the industry’s history. A dedicated contract flooring section with demonstrations each day by leading manufacturers is another new feature and David Wildman, the event organiser, believes these new aspects to the show are why many exhibitors have chosen to exhibit in Harrogate again this year, rather than relocate to Birmingham. Over 100 exhibitors have so far signed up for the new show.
Last year it was announced that the National Floor Show, held in Harrogate since 1992, would relocate to the NEC in 2010 to encourage more visitors. Initially the show was expected to take place in June, although this decision has been reversed and it is now also scheduled for September.
The relocation to the NEC was an unpopular decision as David Wildman quickly discovered, when numerous exhibitors contacted him and suggested he head-up and continue with a Harrogate show and retain the traditional September fixture. After positive and supportive discussions with HARROGATE International Centre and the town’s hoteliers, David made the decision to launch the new Harrogate Flooring Show.
David Wildman believes that quality of visitor is the factor that counts, rather than visitor numbers, saying, “The setting for the Harrogate Show within the town centre is, for many exhibitors, more conducive to business than inner or outer city sites. The friendly atmosphere and quality in the many bars, restaurants and hotel venues, all within walking distance of the exhibition halls, makes it easy for exhibitors to meet their buyers informally and do business.”
Stuart Quin, director at HIC, adds, “We are delighted to support this new event and we will be holding a drinks reception in the Royal Hall for exhibitors and other invited guests to toast the show’s success. As the show develops HIC are well placed to accommodate future expansion with two new exhibition halls due to open in the autumn of 2011 adding an extra 3,300 sq m of space to our venue. Many of the exhibitors are old friends who return every year to enjoy Harrogate and the surrounding area whilst doing good business with their buyers. ”
