AECC celebrates Silver Anniversary this year!

Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC) celebrates 25 years in business this year (September 2010). To mark this special occasion, AECC are inviting clients, suppliers, supporters and partners to come together to join the venue’s team to celebrate  what is expected to be Aberdeen’s largest charity dinner dance this year. The 25th anniversary birthday party will take place on Saturday 25th September 2010 in the Press and Journal Arena and aims to give something back to the local community while remembering AECC’s history.

The confirmed headline act for the evening is 2009’s X Factor runner-up Olly Murs. This will be Olly’s second visit to AECC after appearing on the X Factor Tour earlier this year where he was a massive crowd pleaser with his unique twists on old classics and signature dance moves. Also appearing, and adding an extra Scottish twist to the night, are The Dangleberries – a band who add bagpipe influences to ‘rock’ music with a unique blend of vocals, drums guitars and bagpipes.  As a finale to the celebrations guests will dance the night away to an 80’s style disco true to the decade in which the AECC was built. The delicious menu planned for the event, will showcase AECC’s award winning in house Catering Team; the three course menu will add a touch of true Scottish flair and, as always, will be supporting local producers.

To coincide with the 25th anniversary the AECC venue team has pledged to raise £25,000 for CLAN (Cancer Link Aberdeen and North). CLAN is a charity that assists and supports all those affected by cancer.  A number of AECC staff members have relied on support from CLAN in the past, so it is a charity close to many hearts. All profits from the birthday event will go directly to CLAN.

Brian Horsburgh, AECC Managing Director said, “AECC is thrilled to be celebrating 25 years in business. We have been lucky to receive support from the local community for 25 years and want to show our appreciation for that support by giving something back to the community by teaming up with CLAN to raise money for their new local headquarters and haven. Over the years we have had a huge variety of acts play at the AECC. We aim to reflect this in the variety of entertainment at our charity dinner dance.”

In the past the Centre has hosted a diverse selection of international conferences, exhibitions and dinner dances which have helped put Aberdeen on the map. However it’s not always about this sort of business, as the AECC is probably best known for being an entertainment venue that provides the people of the North East with a chance to see their favourite musicians, comedians and sporting heroes.

Tickets for this one off birthday event are priced at £55 each or £550 for a table of 10 and are available from Friday 4th June from AECC’s online shop www.aecc.co.uk, via the AECC’s Sales Team directly (T: 01224 824824) or via  Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.co.uk). Corporate and private bookings are available but please note this event is for over 18’s only. Sponsorship opportunities are available, please contact Anna Mackenzie, Sales Manager directly on 01224 330488 for more information.
