Hackitt Reforms – fire safety laws20 Mar 2019
The Ministry of Housing Communities and Local Government has announced that a consultation on the review of fire safely legislation will take place this spring with an initial trial of ‘early adopters’. Currently the review’s scope covers high risk residential buildings over 10 storeys excluding hotels, hostels or offices. Ultimately any change of the law will impact all premises. As covered in previous updates the idea is that fire safely legislation will mirror the structure of the CDM Regulations meaning that the fire safety strategy envisioned by the architect should not be altered or compromised without returning to first principles. It remains to be seen how this will apply to events though it is reasonable to assume that it will require a more focused approach to event fire risk assessments.
