Telling the Story of the Power of Events – Message from the Chair, AEV/AEO/ESSA Sustainability Working Group
Throughout 2017 the AEV/AEO/ESSA Sustainability Working Group has been supporting Positive Impact’s campaign for the UN International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development.
In September Positive Impact launched their commentary ‘Telling the Story of the Power of Events’. The purpose of the commentary is to provide a starting point to inspire input from the event industry on the unique and potentially catalytic impact which the event industry could have on achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The hope is to also identify changes in policies, business practice and supply chain behaviour.
Before submitting a final commentary to the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), between now and November 2017, Positive Impact will be asking the event industry to contribute by providing comment on the following questions:
1. What action do you think the event industry could take to support the 17 Sustainable Development goals being achieved?
2. What are the barriers the event industry is facing in taking this action?
3. What is the future event industry which you can imagine?
4. What examples of best practice, ideas of initiatives or further comments do you have to share?
This research aims to raise the profile of events, showing how they can make a difference to the world, and requires engagement from the events industry to provide crucial feedback.

It would be fantastic to have as much input from members as possible to create a valuable commentary and we would urge you all to ensure this is completed.
