UNITY comes to Olympia London in support of Grenfell Tower relief
Hammersmith based gym, State of Mind Fitness, has today announced that a special boxing event titled UNITY will be taking place at Olympia London on Friday 15th September. All proceeds from the evening will be donated to causes supporting the victims and community affected by the tragic Grenfell Tower fire.
Of their decision to run this event, State of Mind Fitness Owner—Barry O'Connell, said: “Boxing is, and always has been, a sport that fosters community spirit. In fact, several members of the gym found their love for it as children at the Dale Youth Boxing Club, which was sadly lost in the fire.
Directly or indirectly every member of the gym, many of who have spent their whole lives in the area, has been affected in some way. It only felt natural that we do something to help and luckily one of our long-standing members, Leeann Cowper, is also an Event Manager at Olympia London. She has also been helping me run the gym's regular boxing events for the past year, so is perfectly placed to pull UNITY together.â€'
Leeann Cowper said, “I'm so thrilled to be able to combine my two passions, events and boxing, to do something good for a community that has faced tragedy beyond anything most of us could ever comprehend. It's an honour to be organising this event and I'm hopeful that we will be able to raise a lot of money for the victims, their families and the local community.â€'
“Barry and I are used to hosting events for 400 attendees; however we have our sights set on 2000 for UNITY. It's been a team effort in every sense of the phrase with my colleagues and teammates coming together to help make this night a great success.â€'
Attendees will be privy to 12-14 bouts, with all boxers agreeing to fight for free. Tickets start at £20 and are available now. A raffle will also take place on the night, which will conclude with a set by renowned west London entertainment provider, Plush and Funky's DJ Alan Thoroughgood.
