Report: Security Working Group 19.09.18

SEC

ICC Birmingham welcomed the AEV Security Working Group on 19th September, chaired for the first time by NEC's Steve Neal.

Thanks to Steve's direction the group were able to gain an audience with two guest speakers. Martin Girvan, Inspector at the Sports Grounds Safety Authority (SGSA) and Inspector Jon Adams – Special Operations, Greater Manchester Police.

Girvan helped the group explore the UK Government's expert body on safety at sports grounds, providing up to date direction on issues of concern.

An aide memoire ZRRR-CARD was circulated to indicate the education SGSA provides in order to help raise steward's awareness at sporting venues and guide them through procedure should suspected exposure to hazardous substance (including acid attacks) occur.

Inspector Jon Adams gave an insightful and at times sobering review of the aftermath of the Manchester Arena attack that took place last year and the evolution of crisis management across the forces.

Post presentations the group followed a tight agenda covering topics such as sharing additional security risks at venues, the Kerslake Report, contractor wellbeing and security careers,

Both presenters remained for the entirety of the meeting and joined us for a fabulous lunch, provided by Amadeus Food.

Thank you to our guests, the venue, catering and our chair Steve.
